Introduction
The initial step towards the founding of The Danish Confederation of Employers' Associations in Agriculture (SALA) was a co-operation among six agricultural employer’s associations established in 1940, resulting in the formation of a committee of employers' associations in 1942. The six organisations merged and established SALA in 1947, and later on other employers' associations within agriculture and food processing were affiliated to SALA - the most important being the abattoirs and the dairies.
In 1963 SALA concluded a General Agreement with the Danish Confederation of Trade Unions (LO), with the result that SALA obtained status as a central national organisation on the labour market along with The Danish Employers' Confederation (manufacturing industry, services, transport etc).
While production and trade policy issues in farming and food processing business are dealt with by a number of farmers' and co-operative organisations, gathered in the umbrella organisation The Agricultural Council of Denmark (Landbrugsraadet), the employers' interests are attended to by SALA and the affiliated member organisations.
SALA take care of working and wage matters, education, health and safety at work and staff administration in general.
Also, international relations in connection with the labour market are attended to by SALA - first and foremost in connection with the EU and the Nordic countries.
